How to use this pattern

Read the materials and technical notes first, keep every stitch total visible, and pin all components before sewing.

Materials and stitch key

  • 3.00 mm crochet hook
  • Black and yellow yarn; yellow felt; polyester felt
  • Two 10 mm red safety eyes
  • Stuffing, pins, scissors, glue and a sewing needle for assembly

Pattern Note: Yarn weight, quantity, gauge and finished dimensions are unspecified. The material list names polyester felt but does not identify the stuffing material.

US terms: MR = magic ring; sc = single crochet; inc = increase, working two sc into one stitch; dec = decrease, combining two stitches into one. Brackets followed by × indicate repeats; parentheses give final stitch totals.

Pattern Note: Whether to join rounds or work continuously is unspecified.

Assembly and ring markings

  1. Stuff the head, body, legs and tail, checking the tail already filled after Round 13. Stuffing the small ears and arms is optional. Pin the pieces into position before attaching.
Demonstrate provisional component placement with pins while the stuffed head remains separate from the open body.
  1. Attach in this order: legs, tail, arms, ears, then head. Keep the head separate until its marking is added.
  2. Cut five hollow yellow felt circles: two smallest for the arms, two slightly larger for the legs, and the largest for the centre of the forehead. Alternatively, embroider the rings or make yellow crochet chains and sew them into rings.
Distinguish the five hollow felt rings by their relative sizes and intended locations.
  1. Glue the felt rings onto their corresponding areas while the head remains separate.
Show the ring positions on the forehead and limbs before the head is attached.
  1. Attach the marked head last to complete the doll.
Show the completed assembly from an elevated angle that reveals the ears, forehead marking and body.

Your Umbreon is assembled, with banded ears and tail and all five ring markings in place.
